About

The Beginning

Ryan’s musical career began in primary school learning the cornet. With a flair for music he attended the Burton Borough School, a specialist arts school in the area of Telford and Wrekin. Here he participated in all ensembles from the jazz band to the school concert band. Whilst part of the school bands, Ryan travelled the country participating in many festivals and competitions such as the National Concert Band Festival and Music For Youth. The annual band tours saw performances across Europe in France, Holland and Switzerland and various youth music competitions and festivals (World Music Festival and World Youth Music Competition). Ryan achieved a high grade in music at GCSE level whilst at the school. He then moved to New College Telford where he studied AS/A2 Music and Theatre Studies.

Ryan is a recent graduate from Kingston University with an upper second class Bachelor’s degree in Music with honours. Upon leaving Kingston University Ryan was awarded the university Music Prize for attainment and commitment. Whilst studying music he specialised in composition, music education and Ludomusicology (the study of videogame music). Ryan has also graduated from Birmingham City University, having studied for a Post Graduate Certificate of Education in secondary school music.

Currently Ryan is a teacher of music at Ercall Wood Technology College, educating students from 11 – 16 in a range of musical styles and concepts.

Ryan also teaches musical theory as a member of staff at The Arts Centre Telford to instrumentalists and a specifically designed theory course for those who wish to attend musical theatre college/university. Ryan has delivered musical tuition across Europe whilst working for Activ4, providing specialist arts classes and tours for students.

Experience

Ryan is an experienced trumpet player and singer, who has performed with several orchestras, bands, choirs and musical theatre societies in the areas of Kingston upon Thames, Reading and Telford and Wrekin. He has been invited to play as a deputy trumpet player at many orchestras and bands including: Kingston Philharmonic Orchestra, Aldworth Philharmonic Orchestra, Middlesex Yeomanry Band, Richmond Wind Band and The Basement Orchestra. Ryan was involved with all of the ensembles at Kingston University, playing principle trumpet in the brass ensemble and orchestra for three years.

Singing bass/baritone with the university chamber choir, chorus and Twist Choir, Ryan has been involved performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2014 and 2015, the Royal Festival Hall and in the Grumo Music Festival in Italy. Ryan also sings on a freelance basis with choirs and vocal ensembles throughout Telford and Wrekin.
